Identify no more than 8 key annual success measures. We coach that these measures, for K12 school systems, should include measures in the areas of Student Achievement, People, Service to Stakeholders, and Finance. These measures should answer the long term, and then the annual version of this question: What do we need to measure to determine if we’ve been successful? Since our key goals are typically related to students’ achievement and preparation for lifelong success, we recommend that the remaining measures be set in those areas most likely to foster student success: efficient use of financial resources, outstanding service to internal and external stakeholders, and a highly engaged workforce.
