There are four phases of organizational change: 1) the honeymoon, 2) reality setting in, 3) the uncomfortable gap, and 4) consistency.
In phase 3, the performance gap becomes so big that the organization “shakes.” Some people are successful with the change, and others are not. The initial reaction is to slow down and back off, to reduce the discomfort. In fact, this is the time to keep the throttle down.
