Try this tip: Manage up.

“It’s not us, it’s them!”  This is the universal default setting for many workforces. Don’t fall into this easy trap. Great leaders never make themselves look better at the expense of others in the organization. Instead, look for opportunities to specifically praise and build confidence in your team members.
