Sergio Mendoza brings a wealth of experience to his role as a Leader Coach with Studer Education, having dedicated nearly four decades to the field of education. Throughout his career, he has held numerous positions including Tennis Coach, Classified Aide in Bilingual and Special Education, Special Education Teacher, Reading Teacher, Resource Teacher, Vice Principal, Principal, District Director, and Superintendent.
In his final five years as Superintendent of the Burton School District in California, Sergio emerged as a fervent advocate for continuous improvement. His educational philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that schools should cultivate a culture that engages the community in enhancing systems and practices to bolster student learning. He is committed to fostering environments where the learning community is interconnected and actively involved in the school’s progress.
Sergio has also shared his insights on national stages, presenting at prestigious events such as the AASA, The School Superintendents Association, National Conference on Education (February 2022 and March 2023), Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching annual Summit (April 2022 and April 2023), and Studer Education’s annual What’s Right in Education leadership conference (2021 and 2022).
His civic contributions are equally notable, including involvement with St. Mary’s Catholic Community, HOPE Sanger, Fr. Hannibal House, and the Knights of Columbus, St. Paul Council 8990.
As a first-generation American with family roots in Mexico, Sergio is proficient in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish, adding a valuable dimension to his role in diverse educational settings.
