I woke up today thinking about friends of mine who are heading to work as school teachers. Two of them are first-year teachers transitioning after careers in the military; one recently retired from the Army and one who transitioned to Navy Reserves after more than 10 years as an Officer in the U.S. Navy. They chose to serve their country again—this time as a public school teacher.
The teaching profession benefits from service members choosing teaching as a second career and, more importantly, students in K-12 benefit. Here’s a few recent articles about Service Members who have transitioned to the classroom:
Service members who want to teach can be great teachers and educational leaders. I believe my colleagues who lead and work with aspiring teachers in TeacherReady have as their “Connect to Purpose” a commitment to Service men and women, their families, and the education programs and centers of the military. This connect to purpose impacts schools and students as 600 active duty, reserve, and retired military personnel or their spouses are hitting the classrooms— either currently enrolled as aspiring teachers or have earned their professional teaching certificate and are now in classrooms across the U.S. and the world.
Would you make a terrific teacher? Connect with the TeacherReady team as they salute the work of military men and women and their family members, and appreciate the opportunity to offer them and others interested in a career transition to the teaching profession through a quality, state approved, and nationally accredited teacher certification program.
TeacherReady® is state approved and is the Educator Preparation Institute of the NCATE accredited Professional Education Unit at the University of West Florida. Upon completion of TeacherReady, individuals earn a professional teaching certificate from the State of Florida. Visit the TeacherReady website or connect with them on Facebook for more information.
