Burton School District: A Culture of Trust Impacts Student Success

A superintendent sought an unconventional solution that would work for teachers and students when his schools faced critically low math proficiency.

To boost academic performance and college readiness in the Burton School District, Superintendent David Shimer partnered with Studer Education to create a strategic plan. The plan focused on innovative math teaching methods, leadership development, new learning systems, and accountability among staff. Using resources from the local California NSI and Studer Education’s expertise, the district has achieved significant results, with math scores surpassing the state average and California college acceptances increasing from 45% to 70%.
