About Bonita

Bonita Coleman, Ph.D. has more than 28 years of service in public education that includes the roles of teacher, central office and state department of education administration and district superintendent for over ten years. During her tenure, she focused her energies on championing rigorous and ambitious learning opportunities for students by supporting data-based decision-making at all organizational levels.
 
Prior to joining Studer Education, Bonita was the Superintendent for Ocean Springs School District in Mississippi. In this position, Bonita led the district to increase its academic performance to an A rating which it maintained each year of her superintendency. In addition, the district was nationally recognized for its Fine Arts (K-12) and Athletic Programs and consistently placed a strong emphasis on student engagement. Positioning students to thrive in the future was the North Star of the administration. Bonita is a member of the Education Research & Development Institute (ERDI), the American Association of School Superintendents (AASA), and the AASA Women’s Leadership Roundtable.
